The Pakistan cricket team were knocked out of the tournament and failed to register a spot in the semi-finals of the World Cup 2019. However, they ended their campaign by being fifth in the points table and showcased some exceptional cricket in the league stage. However, former Pakistan cricketer, Waqar Younis feels that the senior players in the team do not retire on time and there is no one in the team to tell them so.

"Till the last moment, our World Cup squad was not final and clear. There is a big problem that senior players try to linger on in their careers and there is no one to tell them it is time for them to retire gracefully," said Younis. He also mentioned that the team faced the same problem from so many years in the past. He added that, senior players are brought in the team at the last moment as the authorities are scared of losing in a big tournament.

In an interview with Daily Jang newspaper, Younis also mentioned that there should be no compromise made on the fitness and the form of the players. "The way we struggled to win against Afghanistan in the final over it should not be like that. Our biggest problem is we make compromises in selection on fitness issues, seniority, and other matters," the legendary cricketer added.

He said that after every World Cup, the team witnesses the same script in their cricket with only two characters changed. However, he added that this is not the way to move forward and the team needs to assess where they are going wrong.
