Flashback Friday: Vinod Khanna is a taxing person to live with, reveals Kavita Khanna in an old interview
This week in our Flashback Friday section, we revisit actor Vinod Khanna and his second wife Kavita Khanna's interview on Simi Garewal's show.
Veteran actor Vinod Khanna recently passed away, leaving a void in the lives of his loved ones. The actor's demise happened on April 27, shocking the fans and the B-town stars. Though many industry insiders couldn't turn up for the funeral of the yesteryear actor, a host of celebrities marked their presence at the prayer meet, held yesterday.
Amitabh Bachchan, Rishi Kapoor, Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Alia Bhatt, Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar, Abhishek Bachchan with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan among others attended the prayer meet that was organized by Khanna's family that included wife Kavita Khanna, son Sakshi Khanna and daughter Shraddha Khanna. Vinod's sons - Akshaye and Rahul Khanna from his first wife Gitanjali also attended the prayer meet.
While the nation is still mourning the death of one of the most handsome actors of Bollywood, we decided to revisit one of his old interview from the 90s. Vinod Khanna along with his lovely wife Kavita Khanna got candid on Simi Garewal's chat show Rendezvous with Simi and spoke about his sudden retirement from films in 1978, his life at Osho ashram, his second marriage and his journey in politics.
When asked about his decision to leave behind stardom at its peak and embrace spirituality, Vinod Khanna had reasoned, "My mind made me do that. My mind was hyper, my thoughts were all over the place. I was very angry as I had reached a saturation point. People can press your buttons and make you react... but it's not under your control. When I would meditate, I realised I could master my mind. These things drove me to say -- I've given enough films, I have given enough time, made enough money... now I need to give myself completely to meditation and be with my guru. It was a need within me."
In the later part of the interview, when his wife Kavita was asked if it was difficult to live with Vinod Khanna, she admitted, "He is a very taxing person to live with. But that is Vinod and that is what I liked about him when we first started talking to each other. He was extending boundaries of thought and it was wonderful to do at midnight when I was in that space. To have it do that every day with routine things you do in life is a little taxing. But then you know, I think the strength that you have to carry it to an extreme, also becomes our weakness. Like he admires my mind, but when it gets too analytical, he doesn't like it."
