Kagiso Rabada who was considered as an integral part of the team has claimed only six wickets and failed to make an impact in the tournament. Skipper, Faf du Plessis blames the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi’s poor performance in the tournament and reveals that he tried to stop them from taking part in the league.

Faf revealed that him and the management tried to get Kagiso Rabada to not participate in the IPL and stay fresh for the World Cup instead. He also said that even when he went there, they tried to get him back halfway through the IPL because it is important, not just for them but also for a few other players.

Rabada, who was in a great form in the IPL, claimed many crucial wickets for his team, Delhi Capitals, but failed to create the same impact in the World Cup. The team has been in a miserable position post the retirement of its stalwart cricketer, Ab de Villiers and are struggling in the World Cup as well.

"So, I don't think it's not necessarily just the IPL, but it was important for a few guys to rest and KG is, you can see that his pace is probably a little bit down from where he normally is.” Faf added.

South Africa will play its next game against Sri Lanka on Friday, June 28 at Riverside ground.
