ICC World Cup 2019: Gautam Gambhir believes that Indian all rounder Hardik Pandya deserves more time in middle
Former Indian cricketer and now, Member of Parliament feels that match against Sri Lanka will be a good practice opportunity for the Indian team.
The Men in Blue that are playing their last league match against the Lankans today at Leeds have already qualified for the semi-finals. In a column for ‘The Times of India’ Gautam Gambhir says that the Indian team must win the contest to give them any chance to finish tops on the points table. He added that it is only possible if India beat Sri Lanka and later South Africa beat Australia in the second game today. If India finishes at the top of the points table, then they’ll play against the Black Caps at the semis.
Gautam Gambhir also feels that this game is an opportunity for the Indian team to settle their middle order. The Men in Blue have been struggling in their past few matches as far as their lower batting line-up is concerned. “Currently they are playing Rishabh Pant at number 4. My thoughts are if Hardik Pandya is hitting them the way he is hitting them then he deserves more air time in the middle,” Gambhir added.
Former Indian Skipper, MS Dhoni has been criticised and questioned for his approach in the previous few matches of the team. Speaking of this, Gambhir added that it is pretty obvious that he wants to leave the scene with a bang but is not able to convert his intent into actions.
“Just erase the best finisher tag from his CV and you will still get a Dhoni who is worth his weight in gold,” Gambhir added.
