X Men: Dark Phoenix star Michael Fassbender on Cherik: I love the relationship between Erik and Charles
Michael Fassbender got candid about the Cherik relationship at the X-Men: Dark Phoenix World Premiere. The actor stated that he loved the relationship between Erik and Charles.
One of the core relationships in the X-Men franchise is the camaraderie between Charles Xavier aka Professor X and Erik Lehnsherr aka Magneto. While the movies focus on their fragmented friendship, over the years, die-hard fans have been shipping them as a couple and refer to their ship name as Cherik. Cherik is amongst the most shippable onscreen couples of all-time as they have a major fan-following and thousands of fanart and fanfiction, to gloat about.
In an interview with USA Today on the red carpet of the X-Men: Dark Phoenix World Premiere, Michael Fassbender was asked about the Cherik relationship to which the actor shared, "I’ve loved playing the part. I love the relationship between Erik and Charles because it’s quite sophisticated. They can go to war with one another and they can sit down and play a game of chess." While Charles and Erik are of the opposing opinions when it comes to the interaction between humans and mutants, Michael feels that the duo are interdependent on each other and that Charles may not just be Erik's best friend but also his only friend.

Michael further spoke about his 20+ years friendship with James McAvoy, which started when they starred together in Band of Brothers (2001). "We had a great time working together and had a really nice friendship," Fassbender gushed.
