In a recent podcast, Nina Dobrev had revealed that The Vampire Diaries co-star Paul Wesley and she despised each other and could not get along for the first five months of shooting. Read below to know how Paul reacted to the comments made by his close friend.
It was in June 2019 when Nina Dobrev, popularly known as Elena Gilbert in The Vampire Diaries, revealed on Candice King and Kayla Ewell's Directionally Challenged podcast that Paul Wesley and she initially despised each other. The actress confessed that the pair did not get along for the first five months of shooting. However, Nina also shared that currently, she is the closest to him from the rest of the cast and that they hang out all the time. Recently, in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Paul reacted to Dobrev's comments.
Talking about what Nina said was "absolutely true," Wesley confessed, "When we first started shooting The Vampire Diaries, we totally clashed. We didn't [get along]. Creatively, it just wasn't in sync." However, Paul too reiterated that they are good friends now and talk all the time. The actor stated that there was no way for the fans to pick up on the fact that they were driving each other insane. However, after a few seasons, they did develop "this absolute mutual love."

Wesley also revealed that he had called Dobrev after he had heard about the comments while chilling with Candice. While he felt that the comments were a little blown out of proportion, Dobrev apologised to him.
Paul can understand fans being confused as to why they didn't get along because Stephen and Elena's chemistry was the pillar of the love story in The Vampire Diaries.
