Oscars 2021: Anthony Hopkins' nomination makes him the oldest Best Actor nominee in Academy Awards history
Several artists made noise with their Oscar nominations and one of them was legendary actor Anthony Hopkins. Read on to know more.
The Oscars 2021 nominations were held on 15 March and presented by Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas. The short live presentation saw Priyanka and Nick announcing the nominees across 23 categories and there were a several firsts. From Viola Davis being the most nominated Black actress ever to Chloe Zhao and Emerald Fennell being nominated together in Best Director category, the Oscars 2021 is looking up.
A few other male artists also made noise with their nominations and one of them was legendary actor Anthony Hopkins. The 83-year-old secured a Best Actor nomination for his work in The Father. With this, Hopkins made history as he became the oldest Best Actor nominee in the Academy Awards' 93-year history. Isn't that something special?
Hopkins was naturally excited about his nomination as he took to social media and penned a heartfelt note. He wrote, "Thank you to The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Congratulations to all the nominees. Thank you Florian Zeller for trusting this old man and for the magnificent opportunity to work with you and your outstanding cast. @unitedtalent @sonyclassics @theacademy@jeremybarber @mitchsmelkinson." The actor was also nominated this year for a Golden Globe, but late actor Chadwick Boseman won Best Actor – Motion Picture Drama for Ma Rainey's Black Bottom.
