Biopics on famous musicians are all the rage right now. Bohemian Rhapsody (2018) looked into the life of Queen frontman Freddie Mercury and for his performance, Rami Malek won his first Oscar in the Best Actor category. On the other hand, Taron Egerton stepped into Elton John's shoes for his biopic titled Rocketman. In both the biopics, we got to see the rise of the legendary singers as well as the fall they had to overcome, along the way. Hence, it came as no surprise that a biopic on the king of rock 'n' roll, Elvis Presley, was in the works.

But who would play the iconic musician, who changed the face of music forever? That was a behemoth task for Baz Luhrmann. Amongst those who were in contention included Harry Styles, Ansel Elgort, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Miles Teller and Austin Butler. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Austin is the chosen one to step into the dazzling personality of Elvis Presley. The Elvis Biopic will look at the singer's rise to fame, his eventual stardom and will majorly focus on his relationship with his manager, Col. Tom Parker, who controlled every aspect of Presley's life. Tom Hanks will reportedly play Parker in the biopic.

Baz revealed to THR that he had heard about Butler from his standout role in The Iceman Cometh on Broadway, opposite Denzel Washington. "And through a journey of extensive screen testing and music and performance workshops, I knew unequivocally that I had found someone who could embody the spirit of one of the world’s most iconic musical figures," Luhrmann revealed.
