It was a memorable night for Game of Thrones as the Emmys 2019 nominations list saw the TV series create history. The final season of GOT garnered a record-breaking 32 Emmy nominations with 10 cast members receiving acting nods. Amongst those nominated were Kit Harington, Emilia Clarke, Peter Dinklage, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Alfie Allen, Lena Headey, Maisie Williams, Sophie Turner, Gwendoline Christie and guest star Carice van Houten. The Game of Thrones cast was ecstatic and over the moon for the nods.

Nikolaj, who played Jaime Lannister on the show spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the Emmy nominations. "I was just on the phone with Gwendoline, who is also very excited. It's unreal. We're all just so thrilled, all of us. To have Kit, Emilia, myself, Peter, Alfie, Gwendoline, Maisie, Sophie, Lena, Carice… 10 of us? It's insane! None of us expected this," Coster-Waldau shared. The actor also felt that the acting nominations spoke volumes for the writing quality of season 8. A lot of hate has been spewed at David Benioff and D.B. Weiss for the treatment of the final season. Nikolaj stated that there has been a lot of talk about season 8, which has been a mix of many things.

Nothing else matters. Only us. #GameofThrones

Along with the basic idea of not wanting the show to end, any ending would have been upsetting for the fans, the actor reasoned. "But the only thing I can say is you don't get this many actors nominated with bad writing. It just does not happen. This validates the writing on Game of Thrones, for sure," Nikolaj stated.
