The friendships amongst the cast of Game of Thrones are aplenty and one of the most cherished ones is shared between Emilia Clarke and Nathalie Emmanuel. Khaleesi and Missandei of Naath not only share a sweet bond in the TV show but also share a great camaraderie off-screen. Talking candidly about Emilia with People is Nathalie who referred to her colleague as a "joy." The actress shared that she thoroughly loved working with her as well as learning from her. The two keep a check on each other, every so often, since the series reached its end in May 2019.

In March 2019, through an essay for The New Yorker, Clarke had made a shocking revelation of how she underwent two life-saving brain surgeries after having an aneurysm in 2011. It got so bad, that at one point, the actress asked the medical staff to let her die. Post her second surgery, Emila is now healthy and hearty. Giving major props to her co-star for being so strong, Emmanuel shared, "I remember coming back to work and hearing about [her surgeries] and being like, '"Wow, it’s just so crazy and there you are, ready to go back to work.'"

It’s been one of my greatest joys playing Missandei of Naath... The quiet and kind translator. A brilliant woman who overcame so much suffering and found herself, her voice... and her one and only love. She represented so much for me, personally, that I have no choice but to carry the things she has taught me into my life going forward. Thank you to everyone who made it possible for me to play this part... this life changing part... there are too many to list... @emilia_clarke GIRL! I love you... SO much. I couldn’t have asked for a more generous and supportive co-star... Also... We’ve been out in these streets together boiiii negotiating so much but always having each other’s back. Thank you for all of it... you have been a dear friend at every point. To the entire cast and crew... You will always hold a special place in my heart. The love and energy we shared will be hard to match. I feel like I hit the jackpot meeting and working with you all. I love you. To the fans of the show, and of Missandei... Meanwhile, Emmanuel also got candid about how she cried her eyes out when she read the script of season 8 episode 4 where Missandei gets beheaded at the command of Cersei Lannister. The actress was sad because she loved her character a lot. However, Nathalie is extremely proud of Missandei's strength and ferocity, even in her darkest moments.
