Game of Thrones: No one helped Arya Stark while killing Night King, Maisie Williams confirms at Comic Con
Game of Thrones season 8 left viewers with several questions. One of the biggest being: Did Arya Stark receive help from someone unknown moments before she stabbed the Night King? Maisie Williams has some answers.
Hands down, Arya Stark was one of the stars of Game of Thrones' final season. She came, she saw and she killed the Night King with a stab. The young Stark not only protected Bran Stark during Battle of Winterfell but also saved the alive from the army of the dead. While the moment broke the internet, fans began questioning how Arya managed to pull it off alone. Several fan theories claimed that Arya pulled off the iconic moment in history with the help of someone unknown.
However, Maisie Williams has now clarified that Arya received no help whatsoever. According to Polygon, the British actress, who portrayed the role of Arya Stark on GoT, recently appeared on the Game of Thrones panel of San Diego Comic-Con and debunked the popular theory. She clarified that while Melisandre might have ignited the thought to kill the Night King, it was Arya who solely pulled it off.
“She did that on her own,” Maisie said, sitting on the stage of the iconic Hall H at the SDCC. “If we’re gonna give credit to anyone, it’s Melisandre. She knew what she had to do to put the mission in Arya’s head when she’s at her lowest point," she added. Fans would remember Melisandre prompting Arya that she was destined to kill someone with blue eyes.
“After so long being on her own, she has something to lose now. Being back with her family has made her that much more vulnerable. So if we’re going to put it down to anyone for helping her finish the job, it was Melisandre for the ‘brown eyes, green eyes, blue eyes’ line," she added.
Earlier this week, Vladimir Furdik (the man behind the Night King mask) took to Twitter to address the theory. He tweeted a video that attempts to explain how Arya killed the Night King. He captioned it, "A girl learned from her training."
While fans rejoiced that Night King was killed in the hands of the Stark daughter, the episode was criticised for low light, killing the Night King too soon and not featuring some iconic deaths. Nevertheless, the episode has been nominated for an Emmys award this year.
