Game of Thrones Director Miguel Sapochnik REVEALS why Daenerys Targaryen destroyed King's Landing
*SPOILERS ALERT* Miguel Sapochnik, who directed Game of Thrones Episode 5, The Bells, spoke candidly about Daenerys Targaryen's mindset during The Last War and why she destroyed King's Landing. Read below to know what Miguel had to say on the same.
Game of Thrones Season 8 was one of the most debated about season, not just in the series' history, but all of television as well. Many criticized Dan Weiss and David Benioff for the storyline and the character arcs of beloved characters like Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow. *SPOILERS ALERT* One of the most controversial talked-about moments featured in episode 5, The Bells, when Daenerys Targaryen destroyed King's Landing, in spite of the bells being rung to surrender The Last War.
While talking to IndieWire, The Bells director Miguel Sapochnik spoke about the dangerous decision which led to the deaths of innocent lives. Sapochnik stated that the way Dany treated humans and the conviction that the Khaleesi had, it meant that the conviction was eventually going to fall afoul. "She's not questioning herself anymore, which is the difference between somebody who, I think, has kind of lost their mind. That's part of what makes us human, are we question whether we've made the right decisions or not." Miguel shared.

Sapochnik took the creative decision to not cut back to Dany during the burning sequences as she and the dragon become one when she made the decision.
In an earlier behind-the-scenes video, Emilia Clarke revealed that the reason for Daenerys' decision and descent to the Mad Queen stems from being alone. Whether it be Jon Snow abandoning her or the death of Missandei and her dragon, Rhaegal.
