Maisie Williams, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Isaac Hempstead Wright, John Bradley, Jacob Anderson, Liam Cunningham and Conleth Hill made their way to the San Diego Comic-Con 2019. The Game of Thrones actors made their way to the SDCC for a special panel in Hall H. The cast present at the venue addressed some hot questions about the series finale. From questions on Arya Stark killing the Night King to addressing the reason behind Grey Worm sparing Jon Snow for murdering Daenerys Targaryen, they tackled several questions. One of the topics Nikolaj Coster-Waldau had to tackle was Jaime and Cersei's death.

The finale season showcased the brother-sister sibling die under the rubbles of the King's Landing. The incest lovers died in the hands of each other, while Dany destroyed the King's Landing. The death scene invited a lot of criticism soon after the episode premiered. Taking the SDCC 2019 stage, Nikolaj defended the death scene.

A video shared by Variety from the event showcased the actor deeming the death "great" and "perfect for that character’s ending." He added, "It made sense to me," before the audience erupted and booed the actor.

The booing and the actor's statement invited a lot of reactions online. Fans called him out for his statement. A fan's tweet read, "He has been paid off. I remember him saying he had issue with his character's death." Another tweet read, "Anyone who has kept up knows Nik is bs-ing here. He hated Jaime/Cersei, found it toxic and really wanted Jaime away from her. But he's not going to shit on D&D's work so here we are. Most people know that Jaime ending was trash. Jaime and Cersei were toxic, nothing to root for."

Nikolaj also went on to address the backlash against the final season. "It comes to an end, it’s gonna piss you off no matter what because it’s the end. "If you hated the ending, if you loved the ending, that’s great. Just don’t call people names," he said.
