After the news broke that Game of Thrones actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau has joined a pilot at FX, it is now come to light that Lena Headey who played the character of Cersai Lannister has been a cast for a drama comedy called Rita, where Lena Headey plays the lead character. Cersai Lannister unfortunately was seen under a pile of dust and rubble in the final episode of the HBO series. Lena would be playing Rita in this hour long dram comedy which has a pilot production order at Showtime.
Headey’s character in Rita is said to be very strong unique and she would be seen playing a single mother and a teacher who taken on the authority. She also cares about her family but in a very unconventional way that has not been explored so far. The pilot is being written by Christian Torpe and Rita is based on Torpe's original Danish series. Lena Headey is also executive producer and will be multi-tasking as the lead actor as well.
Jana Winograde, president of entertainment at Showtime, stated that Rita is a character which is far more complex and challenging that the usual female characters. She can make you cry and laugh and has different shades to her character. This character will also challenge the hypocrisy of the world around her. Lena is a very talented actress who can take on such a headstrong role and make it look very real. Lena Headey’s was recently seen in the film by Stephen Merchant called 'Fighting with My Family' with actors like Dwayne Johnson, Nick Frost and Vince Vaughn.
