Fyter Fest 2019: Jon Moxley wins his first match in AEW against Joey Janela; Kenny Omega seeks retribution
AEW Fyter Fest 2019's main event pitted Jon Moxley against "Bad Boy" Joey Janela in a non-sanctioned match. While Moxley defeated his foe, Kenny Omega ambushed the former WWE wrestler, ahead of their match at AEW All Out on August 31, 2019.
All Elite Wrestling (AEW) shocked the world during its first ever pay-per-view, All or Nothing when the main event between Chris Jericho and Kenny Omega, saw the surprise debut of Jon Moxley. After leaving WWE in May and saying goodbye to Dean Ambrose, Moxley ambushed both Jericho and Omega, thus making a grand statement. While Jon vs. Kenny is set up for AEW All Out on August 31, 2019, we got to see Moxley make his AEW in-ring debut at Fyter Fest 2019.
And who was Jon Moxley's opponent? "Bad Boy" Joey Janela! It came as no surprise that the main event between Moxley and Janela was a non-sanctioned match. No expense was spared over the hardcore element of the match as the competitors used a barbwire steel chair, tables, a barbed wire board and the custom pop-inducing ladder. Let's not forget the trusted thumbtacks, which got the raucous audience to chant a collective "Oh!" While Janela tried to duck from the thumbtacks onslaught, a release suplex from Moxley did it for the Bad Boy.
A risque move which shocked all was when Joey went feet-first into the thumbtacks, courtesy of Jon. Janela egged Moxley on daring him to finish him off. Jon did exactly that and defeated his foe with a Death Rider (onto the thumbtacks!).
After the match, Moxley did not have time to celebrate because his All Out opponent Omega ambushed the wrestler, as retribution for his actions at All or Nothing. However, after the sadistic beatdown, Jon Moxley was still smiling, thus having the last laugh.
