Doctor Strange 2 star Benedict Cumberbatch's parents did not want him to be an actor
Benedict Cumberbatch revealed in an interview that his parents did not want him to be an actor. Instead, they wanted him to be a doctor or a lawyer. Read below to know more about what the Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness star had to say on the same.
Benedict Cumberbatch is a bonafide actor who has a good repertoire to boast about. Whether it be immortalising himself as one of the greatest portrayals of Sherlock Holmes, pretty much ever or leaving us hypnotised as Doctor Strange in the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe). The star has also been nominated for an Oscar for his role as Alan Turing in The Imitation Game (2014). However, in a recent interview with The Lady magazine, Benedict confessed that his parents wanted him to be a doctor or a lawyer, instead of an actor.
"They scrimped and saved to get their only son the very best education possible. And I took that education threw it all in their face and became an actor anyway. To this day, one of the reasons I get out of bed in the morning is to make them proud of me," Cumberbatch revealed. Benedict's dad Timothy Carlton and mom Wanda Ventham sent him to the Harrow School whose fees was £13,925 per term and the alumni included Winston Churchill. While Cumberbatch did attend the school, after finishing up at the Brambletye School, the actor became a member of The Rattigan Society, which was the Dramatic Arts Club. The rest, as they say, is history.

We're glad that Benedict Cumberbatch stuck to his dream of becoming an actor and judging by his worldwide success, his parents will surely be glad too!
Meanwhile, speaking of Doctor Strange, the sequel was formally announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2019. Directed by Scott Derrickson, Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness also stars Elizabeth Olsen and is slated to release on May 7, 2021.
