Christian Bale on Robert Pattinson playing Batman: Everybody protested when Heath Ledger was cast as Joker

Christian Bale had some sound advice to give Robert Pattinson, who has been getting some flak for being cast as the next Batman. The Dark Knight (2008) star told the actor to not listen to the naysayers and gave the example of the late Heath Ledger, who gave a brilliant performance even though there were many who protested the casting choice for Joker.

Robert Pattinson being cast as Batman in Matt Reeves' standalone film of the Caped Crusader, drew a mixed reaction from Twitterati. While some argued that the 33-year-old actor had more range than just being the kid from the Harry Potter (2001-2011) and Twilight (2008-2012) franchises, some believed that he would tank like Ben Affleck's Batman unfortunately did! However, Robert has gotten the seal of approval from what many consider the best Batman actor of all time, Christian Bale! During various interviews at TIFF 2019 (44th Toronto International Film Festival), the Ford v Ferrari star has been all praises for Pattinson.

In one such recent interview with Extra TV, when asked what advice he would give The Lighthouse actor, Christian touched upon the hate that Robert was getting. "Good for him. Just make it his own. Don't listen to the naysayers. Think about it: Everybody protested when Heath [Ledger] was cast as the Joker, and look at what an absolutely brilliant performance he gave," the 45-year-old actor stated. Furthermore, The Dark Knight (2008) star shared, "Don't listen to those guys. Do his own thing. He's a fascinating actor. He's a great choice."

The late Heath Ledger went on to posthumously win the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his superlative performance as the menacing Joker!
