Batman: Robert Pattinson replies to backlash over casting; Recalls first REACTION to donning the Batsuit
As soon as the news made the headlines that Robert Pattinson will be playing the new Batman, DC fans took to social media to share their reactions. While there were some positive reactions, there were many who weren't happy about his casting. Pattinson reacts to the backlash he received.
When news broke out confirming that Robert Pattinson is playing the next Batman, DC fans were divided. While some fans were hopeful that the Twilight star could pull off the DC superhero role, a majority portion of fans were not fully convinced over his casting as the new Cape Crusader. They felt that actor might not fit the bill and flaunt the cape like previous Batman actors Christian Bale and Ben Affleck. This also led to a petition making the rounds urging WB to reconsider.
However, the backlash seems to have left minimal impact on Pattinson. The actor, who will soon be seen in Lighthouse, spoke to Variety and said that he had expected a bigger reaction. He felt that the backlash was rather "less vitriolic." He also feels good to be playing the underdog for there would be no expectations from him and he could surprise the fans.
“To be honest, it was less vitriolic than I was expecting. It’s much more fun when you’re an underdog. There’s no expectation of you," he told the international outlet. While he shared his reaction to the backlash, the actor also revealed his first thoughts when he slipped into the iconic Batsuit. The actor confessed he felt he was a "transformed" man when he donned the suit.

“It’s maybe the craziest thing I’ve ever done in terms of movie stuff,” he said, as he recalled flying down to LA for the final stage of audition. “I put it on. I remember saying to Matt, ‘It does feel quite transformative!’ He was like, ‘I would hope it does! You’re literally in the Batsuit.’ You do feel very powerful immediately. And it’s pretty astonishing, something that is incredibly difficult to get into, so the ritual of getting into it is pretty humiliating. You’ve got five people trying to shove you into something. Once you’ve got it on, it’s like, ‘Yeah, I feel strong, I feel tough, even though I had to have someone squeezing my butt cheeks into the legs,’” he said.
Pattinson got his career changing call five days later. Coincidentally, it was his first day on sets of Christopher Nolan's Tenet. “I was like, ‘What a coincidence this is happening. It’s absolutely crazy," he said. We cannot wait to see Robert Pattinson in the Batsuit. What about you? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
