The Batman: Matt Reeves CONFIRMS Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth in Robert Pattinson starrer
It's official: Black Panther actor Andy Serkis has been roped in to play Alfred Pennyworth in Robert Pattinson's The Batman. Director Matt Reeves took to Twitter to welcome the actor on board.
Slow and steady, Matt Reeves is putting together a stellar star cast for his first Batman movie. The Warner Bros movie, which revisits the story of the DC superhero, found its new Batman in Robert Pattinson earlier this summer. The production house presented the Catwoman suit to Zoe Kravitz and The Riddler's mask to Paul Dano a few weeks ago. Now, the director of the DC movie has announced Black Panther star and Venom 2 director Andy Serkis has been roped in to essay the role of Alfred Pennyworth.
The filmmaker took to Twitter to share a GIF featuring Andy running down the red carpet to give fans a high-five. He shared the clip with the caption, "And here comes #Alfred !" adding a bat emoji. The tweet confirmed Andy will be playing Bruce Wayne's butler in the superhero movie. Jeremy Irons played the iconic Batman ally in Justice League. This isn't the first time Matt and Andy are collaborating. The duo has worked together on Planet of the Apes helmed by Matt.
The news about Andy's inclusion comes amidst speculations that Matt is considering Colin Farrell to play Oswald Cobblepot aka the Penguin. The director has chosen to stay tight-lipped about the discussion. There are also rumours doing the rounds suggesting that Matthew McConaughey could join the Batman movie to bring Harvey Dent aka Two-Face to life. WB and Matt are yet to address these rumours.
The Batman cast now looks something like this: Robert Pattinson as Batman/Bruce Wayne, Zoe Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Paul Dano as Edward Nashton/The Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth.
