Avengers: Endgame star Robert Downey Jr to return as Iron Man in the MCU? Deets Inside
Robert Downey Jr., who immortalised Iron Man on-screen retired the superhero avatar in Avengers: Endgame. However, a recent report suggests that the actor may return one more time as Iron Man for a Disney Plus series. Read below for more details.
In Avengers: Endgame, Iron Man proved to be the true war hero when he sacrificed himself to defeat Thanos. In the last few moments of the final battle, Tony Stark takes over the six Infinity Stones and snaps the gauntlet to defeat the bad guys. However, in the process of doing so, he had to give up his life for the greater good. It was an emotional swan song for the beloved superhero who kickstarted the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) journey with Jon Favreau's Iron Man (2008).
While it seemed as though Robert Downey Jr. was done with his superhero alter-ego for good, we may see him return one more time in the MCU. But not physically, more like, vocally! According to We Got This Covered, Marvel is coming up with a Disney Plus series on Ironheart, which may include RDJ's active involvement! For the uninitiated, 15-year-old Riri Williams is Ironheart, who carries forward the legacy of Iron Man in Marvel Comics. RDJ's Iron Man could return as the voiceover for Ironheart's AI, like J.A.R.V.I.S. (Paul Bettany) was for Iron Man.

Meanwhile, in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Downey spoke about how he is using the theatre trick "aesthetic distance" to distance himself from Iron Man. RDJ stated, "I am not my work. I am not what I did with that studio. I am not that period of time that I spent playing this character. And it sucks because the kid in all of us wants to be like, 'No. It's always going to be summer camp and we're all holding hands and singing 'Kumbaya',"
