Avengers: Endgame initially had Iron Man delivering lovely dying words but Robert Downey Jr REJECTED it
Avengers: Endgame featured the heartbreaking death of Iron Man aka Tony Stark. While Robert Downey Jr portrayed superhero character's final words were "I am Iron Man," the writers had something different planned.
There is no denying that San Diego Comic-Con 2019 was all about the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Marvel Studios announced their plans for the MCU Phase 4. From Black Widow to Blade, Thor: Love and Thunder and The Eternals, big movie and Disney Plus series announcements were the highlights of Marvel at SDCC 2019. Apart from the new announcement, Marvel Studios made some noise courtesy Avengers: Endgame. Although the movie released in April, there was a special panel at the Comic-Con this year wherein new interesting details about the highest-grossing movie of all-time were revealed.
The Russo Brothers and Avengers: Endgame writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely took over the centre stage and spilled the beans about the Marvel movie. While there were several behind-the-scene details discussed, there was one thing that caught our fancy. The Avengers: Endgame writers spoke about the original plan for Iron Man aka Tony Stark's death in the movie. The MCU movie bid farewell to the oldest MCU character on screen. Fans would remember that Tony's last words were "I am Iron Man," reminding us of the Iron Man ending, when Robert Downey Jr was introduced to MCU as the superhero.
While it was emotional for Iron Man fans, the writers had different final words planned for the superhero. According to Comicbook.com, the writers had planned some lovely dying words for the superhero. However, Downey Jr rejected the idea. "Robert did not want that; he knew that there is more weight to Tony when the hero doesn't talk. The star wanted to do much less. So, Robert had the most influence along with the producers," the report revealed.
