Anthony Mackie calls out Tom Holland after New Captain America almost featured in Spider Man: Far From Home
Spider-Man: Far From Home almost featured the first look of Anthony Mackie as the new Captain America. However, the makers decided to go against it.
Marvel Cinematic Universe fans would have more than one reason to rejoice with the release of Spider-Man: Far From Home. The Marvel movie, which is the first release post the events of Avengers: Endgame, will feature Tom Holland's Spider-Man head out sans his mentor Iron Man aka Tony Stark for the first time. While we are gearing to see Jake Gyllenhaal's MCU debut, the makers recently revealed that the Spider-Man movie almost featured another superhero being re-introduced. It was recently reported that the makers wanted to introduce Anthony Mackie's Captain America.
Imagine what a grand moment it would have been for Avengers fans. However, the makers decided to go against it. As per a Comicbook.com report, the makers felt it was important for Spider-Man to take on his villain sans the other Avengers. Introducing the new Captain America into the picture would defeat the purpose. Hence, the makers went against it.
"We briefly talked about bringing in Falcon as Captain America at the end, like maybe once Peter's arced, and he's sort of like leading the team, like maybe he calls in a favor. But we also thought it was really important to the arc of this movie that there not be other Avengers available to Nick Fury or Peter, so he'd have to step up and do it himself," Marvel Studios president, Kevin Feige, and creative executive, Eric Carroll said.
While fans were disappointed by the new update, it seemed like Mackie had no idea about the idea either. He replied to a tweet discussing that the new Captain America almost made the cut expressing his shock. He also jokingly called out Tom for messing it up for him and other Avengers fans.
He tweeted, "Shit. REALLY?! Way to go @TomHolland1996 to mess that one up!" Check out his reaction below:
Nevertheless, there will be several opportunities for the actor to make his debut as the new Captain America in MCU phase 4. With the Disney+ plans underway and new movies planned in the future of Marvel Cinematic Universe.
