Gautam Gambhir disappointed with selection panel post Ambati Rayudu’s retirement from International cricket
Former Indian cricketer, Gautam Gambhir expressed his disappointment with the selection panel for ignoring Ambati Rayudu in the on-going World Cup tournament.
Ambati Rayudu, who has played 55 ODI matches for India was ignored twice in the on-going World Cup tournament to be a part of the Indian squad. In his 55 ODI matches, Rayudu has smashed three 100s and ten 50s. He announced his retirement from all formats of the game on Wednesday, 3rd July.
Former Indian opener and now a Member of Parliament, Gautam Gambhir lashed out on the selection panel and stated that they have been a disappointment in this World Cup. Gambhir stated that according to him, the selectors have been a complete disappointment in the World Cup and he blamed them for Rayudu’s retirement. “Rayudu’s retirement decision is because of them and their decision making skills are to be blamed for this.” He said.
While blasting out on the selectors, Gambhir also mentioned that five selectors combined would have not made the runs Rayudu has in his career. He said that he feels extremely sad for his retirement. He also stated that Rishabh Pant and Mayank Agarwal got selected amidst the World Cup injuries and anyone in Rayudu’s place would have equally felt bad.
He praised the Indian cricketer and said that he has played so well in the IPL and for his nation and his retirement is a sad moment for the Indian cricket. “Rayudu has scored three 100’s and ten 50’s and despite that if a player has to retire, it is a sad moment for Indian cricket.” Gambhir added.
Vijay Shankar was selected ahead of Ambati Rayudu as the preferred no.4 batsman for the team in the on-going World Cup tournament. Several injuries in the team still didn’t result in his inclusion in the team’s squad.
