India batsman Ambati Rayudu announced his retirement from all forms of cricket, including the IPL, with immediate effect. The move comes after the Indian team management preferred Mayank Agarwal as the replacement from injured Vijay Shankar in the World Cup team. Rayudu was enlisted as a stand-by for the World Cup, but was not called upon even after injuries to Shikhar Dhawan and then Shankar.

While Rishabh Pant replaced Dhawan, Agarwal was Shankar's replacement.

Rayudu had been disappointed after being overlooked for the initial squad as well, with Shankar being chosen over him. The all-rounder, who had been termed as a 3-D player by the selectors, was cheekily taken down by Rayudu in a tweet.

Last year, Rayudu had retired from first class cricket to focus on ODIs and T20s. He has played 55 ODIs, scoring 1694 runs at an average of 47.05. He also played six T20Is, scoring 42 runs.
