Former Indian cricketer, Sanjay Manjrekar backs MS Dhoni, says pressure should be put on KL Rahul
MS Dhoni who scored 42 runs off 31 balls against the hosts was criticised by the fans and experts for his lack of positive intent in the match.
Sanjay Manjrekar, former Indian cricketer, feels that the focus and criticism towards the 2011 World Cup captain, MS Dhoni is really unfair. In an interview with PTI, Sanjay stated that if at this stage of his career, if there aren’t other batsmen who can help India win matches then it is not a healthy sign for the Indian cricket.
Addressing the team’s weak start against England, Manjrekar also mentioned that as a well wisher of the Indian cricket team, the pressure should be more on KL Rahul and others to start delivering and take the load away from the people like MS Dhoni. He also added that when Dhoni comes to bat in after 22-25 overs, he should try to score run-a ball and see how it goes.
When asked about Vijay Shankar’s injury, Manjrekar stated that it is unfortunate that Vijay Shankar is injured but he is delighted to have Mayank Agarwal in the team as his replacement for the rest of the tournament. “I think Mayank is a class player and he made his test debut in Australia and is a very good addition to the squad. In England, the approach to ODI is closer to test cricket,” he added.
The Men in Blue who will take on Bangladesh today at Edgbaston will require to win one of their two remaining matches in the tournament in order to qualify for the semi-finals.
