Former cricketer Srikkanth says that Virat Kohli & Rohit Sharma needs support from middle order in WC 2019
The Men in Blue were defeated by the hosts by a margin of 31 runs and the Indian batsmen were criticised for their lack of intent in the game.
Apart from the partnership of Rohit Sharma and the Indian skipper, Virat Kohli, the team’s batting line-up crumbled against the English bolwers. India was unable to chase their huge target of 338 runs and lost the game by a solid 31 runs. This encounter was however a do or die clash for the hosts in order to stay alive in the race for semi-finals.
Former Indian cricketer, Krishnamachari Srikkanth wrote in his column for the International Cricket Council (ICC) that there still some problems for the Men in Blue which they need to fix. He said that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are the main run-scorers for the team at this moment and the duo needs support. He also added that India is going to qualify for the semi-finals and it’s just a question of when and in what position they’ll be in the top four.
Srikkanth also praised the Indian bowlers, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami for their great spell against the explosive English batsmen. He mentioned that both Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami were superb with the ball as well, but the spinners had an off day and such things can happen in the tournament.
India will next encounter Bangladesh at Edgbaston cricket ground tomorrow i.e. 2nd July at 3 pm IST. The Men in Blue will need to win one of their two remaining matches in order to qualify for the sem-finals.
