Gajraj Rao on Badhaai Ho's success: Scale of acceptance of such simple form of storytelling is remarkable
Badhaai Ho is a blockbuster worldwide as it crossed the 200 crore mark globally. Pinkvilla got in touch with Gajraj Rao and asked about his reaction to the film's success.
2018 has been a year where content-driven cinema has been a winner. Last month, Ayushmann Khurrana, Gajraj Rao, Neena Gupta and Sanya Malhotra starrer Badhaai Ho released. The film is a complete package of entertainment, story, drama, laughter and emotions. By showing how even the older parents are sexually active and expect a child, it broke the norms of the society. Even the audience and critics loved the concept, storytelling, performances and the music of the film.
It has been a month since Badhaai Ho hit the theatres, but the film is still running successfully. Even the multi-starrer Diwali release Thugs of Hindostan starring Aamir Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Shaikh failed to beat Badhaai Ho's collection. Until November 21, the film made a collection of Rs 158.25 crores approx in India and the overseas collection is Rs 43.72 crores approximately, thus making the worldwide collection to Rs 201.97 crores.
In an EXCLUSIVE chat with Pinkvilla, we asked Gajraj Rao aka Jeetender Kaushik for his reaction to the film's worldwide success. The talented actor said, "I am overwhelmed. Not because it means more money, but because these numbers are a reflection of the love that the audience is ready to give to fresh, entertaining stories that are well executed with sincerity and passion. The 200 crore figure is not unheard of nowadays; but the scale of acceptance of such simple form of storytelling is something that’s really remarkable. It’s heartening to see that it actually happened because of an invisible star in this film – the story. And that is what makes this Rs 200 crores milestone much more valuable than what any balance sheet can ever show."
