Ellyse Perry laments lack of Women's Tests after England and Australia play a Test after two years
The Australia and the England Women's Cricket teams are playing a Test match after almost two years. Aussie all-rounder Ellyse Perry lamented the lack of five day games, and urged the ICC to include more Tests in the women's cricketing calendar
The Australian and the English women cricket teams played thier first Test match after a gap of two long years on Thursday. The one-off Test is a part of the Women's Ashes that is currently underway in England.
The last Test that was played in women's cricket was way back in November 2017, when the two sides had faced off against each other Down Under. Aussie all-rounder Ellyse Perry has now come out and spoken about the need for an increase in women's Tests.
“Everything’s been few and far between,” lamented Perry in an interview with Daily Telegraph. "It seems like every time I play a series at the moment it just gets a little bit bigger and better than the last."
Ahead of the big game, she had elaborated on the technical adjustments that are needed when one switches from ODIs to Tests. The Aussie Women's team had played an ODI series against the English before the Test, which they won.
"I don’t think it’s that big. It’s still the same opposition, it’s still the same rules pretty much. Tactically, there’s a few things that come into it – around your decision-making, because you’ve got so much more time.
“Growing up, I did a lot of work that was technically based. So, I sort of feel that, no matter where you’re playing, the basics are still the basics. Then it’s just about adjusting on the day.”
Perry also spoke about the introduction of women's cricket in the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
“With all women’s sport at the moment, the sky’s the limit. It’s incredible some of the things that have been happening,” Perry reflects. “We’re very fortunate to be in a position where what we’re doing is hopefully a really good news story and positive news story and has a massive influence on a lot of people.
"It kind of helps to change society a bit, which is pretty cool.”
