Smriti Mandhana honoured with Arjuna Award
Smriti Mandhana reached the number one ranking in ODIs last year and was also named as the ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year.
Indian opener Smriti Mandhana was honoured with the prestigious Arjuna Award on Tuesday by the Union Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Kiren Rijeju held at New Delhi. The player had missed the award ceremony last year due to international committments and collected the trophy this week.
The award is yet another feather in the cap for Mandhana. After a stellar run in ODIs last year, the player was awarded with the ICC ODI Player of the Year by the governing council. The youngster already has over 1950 runs in ODI cricket at a staggering average of 42.41.
Mandhana had come to the fore after a hundred in the World Cup in 2017. Though she faced a slump after the knock, she returned stronger and played in the T20 league in England. She also signed up for the Womens' Big Bash League in Australia. The cricketer reached the number one ranking after a memorable ODI season last year, and is gearing up for the South Africa series.
