Chris Gayle expresses his disappointment as Windies did not make it to the semi finals of ICC World Cup 2019
West Indies won their last match of the tournament against Afghanistan and ended their World Cup campaign at the second last position in the points table.
Chris Gayle who played his last World Cup match on Thursday expressed his gratitude to play the World Cup for West Indies. He said that its been a privilege and honour to represent West Indies in five World Cup tournaments. However, the West Indian batsman also added that its disappointing to end their World Cup campaign without making it to the top four. “Lots had happened behind the scenes to get here and be here, that’s fantastic,” Chris added.
Gayle mentioned that even though the team would have loved to lift the trophy, it didn’t happen. However, he added that at the same time it was fun and he enjoyed it. Chris said, “Words can’t explain my feeling at the moment honestly.”
The explosive West India batsman, Chris Gayle reportedly is set to retire from international cricket post the series against the Men in Blue. Gayle played his last World Cup match against Afghanistan, which the team won by 23 runs. Gayle stated that the team have a great bunch of players and its for them to uplift West Indies cricket. He also mentioned that he’ll be around for a few more games and will be there for the youngsters.
Chris Gayle has clearly indicated that this was his last World Cup and admitted that he has been struggling and doesn’t intend to put his body at risk. “It is my last World Cup... unless they give me two years of rest and I come back (laughs),” Gayle added.
