Ben Stokes apologises to Kane Williamson; Says, 'Not the way he wanted it to be in ICC World Cup 2019 Final'
England’s Ben Stokes who was named the Player of the Match for his outstanding performance in the final says that he doesn’t think there would be a better match of cricket in the history than this.
England cricket team won the World Cup 2019 trophy at Lord’s last night. This encounter in the final was carried on till the last ball of the game and was pushed to a super over. However, the super over was tied as well and the hosts claimed the title on the basis of more boundaries.
England’s Ben Stokes who played a spectacular role in the finals was awarded the Player of the Match. He smashed an unbeaten 84 and went on to bat in the super over as well, which helped the team register 15 runs in 6 balls. However, the turning point of the match was in the last over, when Martin Guptill’s overthrow resulted in four for the England side and with the rule runs claimed by the English batsman, a total of 6 runs was registered at a crucial stage of the match.
Speaking of the boundary, Stokes said, “In the last over, when the ball hit the bat and went for four, it’s not exactly what you ask for. I’ve apologised to Kane countless times about that and it’s not exactly how you want to do it.”
However, Stokes also mentioned that moments like that is what you live for as a professional cricketer. “All the hard words that's gone in over these four years, this is where we aspired to be. To do it with such a game, I don't think there will be another like this in the history of cricket," Stokes added.
