The Indian Cricket Team skipper Virat Kohli was fined Rs 500 by authorites as his staff were seen washing cars with drinking water in Gurugram DLF Phase 1. He was also issued a challan for water wastage.

The Indian skipper's neighbours lodged a complaint stating that around 6 cars use thousands of litres of water when they are washed by his domestic staff.

Several places in North India are facing acute water crisis this summer, with the temperatures hovering around the 45-degree mark.

The Gurugram Corporation Commissioner has further warned people that wasting water could attract an even sterner action. At least 10 other houses were fined, with challans being issued against them for water wastage in Gurugram.

Team India won their first World Cup game against South Africa convincingly and will take on Australia on Sunday.
