India vs South Africa, World Cup 2019: Rohit Sharma scores gutsy 100, brings India back in the game
Rohit Sharma is playing a superb knock for India. He already crossed the 100-run mark as Kohli-led side is reaching close to the win over South Africa in the opening match of World Cup
Indian opener, Rohit Sharma on Wednesday scored a fabulous hundred to get India back in their first match of ICC World Cup 2019 against South Africa. Despite a struggling start for Men in Blue, Rohit kept his nerves and brought India back in the game. As seam bowlers were looking unplayable with the new ball, the Mumbaikar fought the hard phase quite well. Although he usually likes to go after the bowlers from the very first ball, this innings has been more about patience and rotating the strike.
Earlier, in reply to Proteas 227-run total at the tricky wicket of Southampton, India got off to a horrible start. The Kohli-led side lost opener, Shikhar Dhawan as Kagiso Rabada was bowling at his very best. Things were not settled yet, the trouble doubled with captain Virat Kohli falling to Andile Phehlukwayo. The batting epitome edged one outside off and Quinton de Kock grabbed a spectacular catch behind the stumps.
After this challenging start, Rohit Sharma turned the things around, playing a very sensible knock. The Indian vice-captain scored his second World Cup hundred, hence helping India again get the upper hand in the match. It was his overall 23rd ton and third against South Africa.
Meanwhile, India is cruising towards the victory as Rohit Sharma has been now joined by experienced, MS Dhoni at the crease. The duo is leading the side towards the target by taking regular ones and twos and an odd boundary in between as well.
