India vs South Africa, World Cup 2019: Match prediction
India walk into the game as favourites.
Team India begin their World Cup campaign at Southampton when they take on South Africa on June 5. The side will be fancying their chances against a below-par South African team, who are coming into the game with two successive losses - against England and Bangladesh.
However, writing the team that has some of the best players in Quinton de Kock, Faf du Plessis, Imran Tahir and Kagiso Rabada will be a stupid proposition. Yes, they have failed to make an impact in the first two games, and they have failed to show any kind of resolve, but writing off a champion team can backfire.
Team India on the other hand are well rested and have got a long gap since the IPL ended, and they will be eager to get going with a win here. They have been training at the Ageas Bowl for more than a week now, and they will be well accustomed to the windy conditions that are prevalent here.
Given South Africa's recent form and injury concerns, the Men in Blue should come out of this game with two points. They have a power-packed top order, a dangerous finisher in MS Dhoni, an exuberant youngster in Hardik Pandya, spinners who can wreak havoc and Bumrah, who is always tough to score off, and if they can all fire, there will be no stopping Kohli's Men.
