India vs South Africa, ICC World Cup 2019: Virat Kohli says starting late is an advantage for the team
After a week of commencement of the World Cup 2019, the Indian cricket team will finally play its first match against the Proteas, today at Rose Bowl cricket ground.
Whilst the fans have shown their disappointment for waiting for India’s first match at the tournament, the Indian skipper, Virat Kohli believes that it will actually provide the team an extra edge.
Virat Kohli said in a pre-match press conference that, “It is a bit of an advantage in terms of understanding how the games have gone, what the conditions have to offer, what the overcast conditions bring into the play.” He said that starting late in the tournament can be a positive factor for the team as you can look at other teams and figure out their approach in the tournament.
India is yet to play their first match in the tournament, whilst the South African team already began its World Cup campaign and has played two matches. However, the team lost both their previous matches (against England and Bangladesh). They lost to the hosts by a huge margin of 104 runs and to Bangladesh by 21 runs. India, who is known to be the tournament’s favourites, will begin a fresh start in their World Cup campaign and will hope to defeat the Proteas in the first match itself.
Virat Kohli led team after the recent form of their middle order batsmen in the second warm-up game will have a balanced squad in the tournament. Proteas, on the other hand, faced a recent blow when their key bowler Dale Steyn was ruled out of the tournament. However, the team will rely heavily on Kagiso Rabada and Andile Phehlukwayo. Nevertheless, it will be an interesting encounter between these two teams.
