India vs South Africa, ICC World Cup 2019: Faf du Plessis blames IPL for Dale Steyn’s exit from the tournament
Ahead of their third match in the tournament, South Africa received a big blow as their key bowler, Dale Steyn was ruled out of the World Cup tournament.
South Africa has lost their previous two games in the tournament and it seems like the things aren’t going well in the favour of Faf du Plessis led SA team. Dale Steyn, South Africa’s most effective bowler had already missed the first two matches of the tournament due to his injury and now is ruled out of this big tournament as he suffered a second shoulder injury.
Dale's shoulder injury was the reason he had to discontinue with IPL 2019 after playing just two matches for his team, Royal Challengers Bangalore. However, the South African captain, Faf du Plessis believes that it was those two IPL matches that reinforced his injury. In IPL 2019, Steyn played only 8 overs in the 2 matches for the team before he was ruled out due injury.
In the pre-match press conference, Faf said, “He was bowling unbelievably well in the lead-up to this tournament and the IPL he was at his best. Unfortunately, it happened there in the IPL in those two games that he played there.”
Faf even stated that had he not been picked up by RCB in the IPL, he would have been here right now as a part of the Proteas squad. However, later, he also said that that we cannot control these things. Dale has been trying really hard to make an impact in his last World Cup and it is important for all of us to be there with him in this difficult situation.
Beuran Hendricks will be the replacement for Dale Steyn for this World Cup. This left arm fast bowler will have to make a big impact to fill in the shoes of Steyn.
