Despite winning the toss and electing to bowl first, South Africa couldn’t get past 227 runs against the men in blue.

Even though, none of the batsmen for the South African team could score more than 50 runs, it was Delhi Capitals’ Chris Morris and Kagiso Rabada’s robust partnership at the death overs that helped the team reach a defendable total. Chris managed to put across 42 runs in just 34 deliveries with a strike rate of 123.53 before getting out to Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Rabada, on the other hand played an exceptional innings till the very end and was not out after scoring 31 runs. However, this partnership between the two Delhi Capitals players gave Twitterati a reason to recall IPL. Let’s have a look at a few tweets.

As these two players saved South Africa’s batting line-up, the top and the middle order crumbled. It was Jasprit Bumrah who provided an exceptional start to the Indian team by dismissing both their openers, Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock to a mere 6 and 10 runs respectively. It was later followed by Yuzvendra Chahal who proved to be the most effective bowler for the side. In his 10 overs, he gave just 51 runs with an economy of 5.10. He picked up 4 crucial wickets for the side. Bhuvneswar Kumar and Kuldeep Yadav managed to get 2 and 1 wickets respectively. India will need 228 runs in 50 overs to win their first match in the tournament.
