ICC World Cup 2019: Not in the team to make runs; can get dropped for next match, says Nathan Coulter Nile
Australian cricketer, Nathan Coulter Nile scored his career's best knock in the match against West Indies.
Despite being the highest run scorer for the team and playing a splendid innings of 92 runs in 60 balls, this Australian all-rounder feels that he can get dropped out in the next match against the Men in Blue. In their second match of the World Cup 2019 tournament, Australia defeated the Windes by 15 runs. However, when we look at their batting, the opening duo, David Warner and Aaron Finch couldn’t get past 9 runs combined. Steve Smith (73 off 103 balls) held the team’s middle order and provided a much need stability to the team along with wicket-keeper and batsman, Alex Carey (45 off 5 deliveries). However, it was Nathan Coulter-Nile who came to bat at no. 8 and led the team’s batting by scoring 92 runs off 60 balls with an exceptional strike rate of 153.33.
However, despite his brilliant innings, he went wicket-less in the entire match. In the 10 overs that he bowled, he gave away 70 runs with a high economy of 7.0.
When asked about whether he feels that he has finally nailed down his place ahead of the team’s clash against the Men in Blue, he refused as he took none for 70 runs. He said that he is not in the team to score runs and hopefully from the next match, the top order can complete that task. Later, he also mentioned that he wouldn’t be surprised if he got dropped out of the team ahead of their next game against India.
Australia will play against the men in blue in their next match on Sunday, June 9, at The Oval, London.
