ICC World Cup 2019: Indian cricket team gets boycotted by the media ahead of their first match

Ahead of India’s first match against the Proteas on June 5, the media boycotted the Indian team on Monday as they were informed that net bowlers Deepak Chahar and Avesh Khan were to interact with the media. According to the team’s media manager, they wanted the two youngsters to have the opportunity to interact with the media before their return. The journalists were informed that these two net bowlers deserved a chance to interact with the media as well.

Deepak and Avesh Khan though not included in the 15 players squad list were called to practice in nets with the team and assist them with their skillful bowling.

However, the media expected the session to be accompanied by at least one senior player or coach Ravi Shastri and the pre-match media session to be held by captain, Virat Kohli. With the commencement of the World Cup already in full swing and questions about the team's fitness and other aspects of the game, the media expected someone with authority or a part of the squad to answer certain questions.

However, the senior members from the fraternity informed that the team can cancel the session if they want to. The teams are under no obligation to hold a press conference days before the commencement of the match.

When asked the management about the unavailability of the players and support staffs, the media manager simply said that it is because India has not officially started its World Cup campaign yet.

The Men in Blue will play against the Proteas tomorrow at Rose Bowl Cricket Ground. India has already won one of their two warm-up matches before the tournament and the team looks in a favourable position ahead of their first game.
