ICC World Cup 2019: ICC says no to MS Dhoni gloves, says it is a breach of rules
Dhoni had worn gloves with an insignia of the army, which was shot down by the ICC as it violated the clothing rules.
The International Cricket Council has turned down BCCI's request to reconsider the objection to MS Dhoni's gloves, calling it a breach of regulations. The former skipper had sported an army insignia on his wicket-keeping gloves during India's first World Cup 2019 game with South Africa on June 5. The insignia was visible when Andile Phehlukwayo was stumped by Dhoni.
Soon after the ICC had requested the BCCI to get the gloves removed, a huge furore erupted on Twitter, with #DhoniKeepTheGloves trending. However, former Indian Football Captain Bhaichung Bhutia had stated that the rules of the governing body should be followed.
The ICC too has followed suit and turned down BCCI's request that Dhoni be allowed to wear the gloves against Australia on Sunday.
The ICC statement clearly mentions that only two manufacturing logos are allowed on the gloves, and that they should not carry any religious or political messages.
It is hoped that the issue is left behind and that the focus shifts to cricket soon, as Team India prepare to take on defending champions Australia on June 9.
