England cricket team is currently the number 1 ODI team in the world and is among the top contenders for the trophy. Whilst the focus and aim would be towards the trophy, let’s take a look at England’s strength and weakness in the World Cup.
Strengths- Apart from the benefits of the home condition, the England cricket team has an extra edge following its on-going form. Its in-depth batting line up includes the likes of the skipper Eoin Morgan with a strike rate of 90.39 in ODI, Joe Root who has the average of 50.48 and Jason Roy with an average of 40.81 and strike rate of 106.3. We can expect this batting line up to set up high scoring innings and will be of a significant threat to the opponents. However, when this batting line up collapses, the team has a robust middle order to take up the responsibility. Moeen Ali, Ben Stokes and Chris Woakes will be the players to look out for in the World Cup. With the recent addition of Jofra Archer in the team, England will be relieved to have a complete package of bowlers and batsmen in the team. The wicket keeper and batsman Jos Buttler will be a great asset for the team.
Weaknesses- Despite being a strong team, England has never managed to win a World Cup and had a disappointing tournament in 2015. However, Ben Stokes has been unable to provide any exceptional innings with his bat over the past 6 months and had an ordinary IPL. England’s pace bowling attack can be a reason for their worry, despite being the favourites in the tournament.
