During India's World Cup game with South Africa on Wednesday, MS Dhoni was seen wearing wicket-keeping gloves that had the insignia of one of the Army units. The insignia symbolises the regiment dagger of the Indian Para Special Forces.

However, the ICC has not taken kindly to this gesture and has requested the BCCI to get it removed. Claire Furlong, ICC General Manager, Strategic Communications, speaking to IANS, said that the BCCI has been asked to get the symbol removed from Dhoni's gloves. "We have requested the BCCI to get it removed," she said.

According to the ICC, "equipment and clothing regulations do not permit the display of messages that relate to political, religious or racial activities or causes during an international match."

Dhoni has always taken a keen interest in the Army, and in 2011, he was given an honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He also has undergone training with the para regiment in Agra. He is expected to have done five parachute jumps during his training period.

He has also often expressed his desire of joining the forces.
