Afghanistan vs Sri Lanka, World Cup 2019: Match prediction
Sri Lanka take on Afghanistan in a battle of two lower-ranked teams in the CWC 2019.
Sri Lanka take on Afghanistan on Tuesday in the World Cup 2019 on the back of some dismal form. The Islan Nation have won only 2 of their last 16 ODIs, and succumbed to an embarrassing defeat against New Zealand in their tournament opener.
Afghanistan too lost their last game, but will be fancying their chances against a below-par rival team. They defeated the Lankans in the Asia Cup last year and will be riding high on confidence.
Given the green wicket that was in use when New Zealand and Sri Lanka played at Cardiff earlier, the seamers could hold an edge in this game. The batters will have to show grit and determination if they want to come out trumps. But while the Lankans rely on their top three to come up with the runs, while Afghanistan have batters who are willing to grind it out - just as we witnessed against Australia.
The bowling unit from Afghanistan is relatively stronger as well. The pace attack has the skills to extract help from the track, while the spin trio of Rashid, Mujeeb and Nabi need no introduction. Sri Lanka have struggled against spin recently, and if their form in the series against South Africa is anything to go by, spin could be their nemesis once again.
This battle between two lower-ranked sides might be a cliff-hanger, but the prediction is highly in favour of Afghanistan, who have more mettle in their ranks.
