Afghanistan vs Sri Lanka, ICC World Cup 2019: Key players to watch out for

Sri Lanka lost to New Zealand in a low scoring total in their first match of the tournament. The Sri Lankan batsmen could only manage to put up 136 runs on board in their first innings, which were easily chased by the black caps in 16 overs and 1 delivery. Afghanistan, on the other hand, couldn’t manage to put up a score more than 207 runs in their first game and lost to Aussies by 7 wickets. Let’s have a look at the key players who will play an important role in today’s match.

1.      Rashid Khan- With 126 wickets in his 60 ODI games, this Afghan cricketer is the most reliable bowler in the team. He has the ability to restrict the opposition to an extremely low total with his bowling skills.

2.      Dimuth Karunaratne- The Sri Lankan skipper will be instrumental in the team’s batting line-up. In the previous match, he scored 52 runs and played an innings where he was not out till the last delivery. When we look at the low scoring matches between these two teams, it will be crucial for both of them to have someone to play a defensive knock along with powerful hitting in the match. The Sri Lankan captain will be leading their batting department from the front.

3.      Gulbadin Naib- Afghanistan skipper, Naib will play a crucial role throughout the tournament. This all rounder in his 56 ODI matches has 51 wickets to his credit and a batting average of 22.07. If Afghanistan wants to bounce back in the tournament, then skipper Gulbadin will need to step up and lead the team to victory.
