When Jodha made Akbar her Rakhi brother…
Big Magic’s ‘Akbar Birbal’ actors Delnaaz Irani and Kiku Sharda may be playing the part of one of the most famous regal pairs in the recent history of mankind; but off-screen they are affectionate rakhi siblings.
‘Akbar Birbal’ is Delnaaz and Kiku’s first TV outing together. However, their bonding dates back to the time when they were doing a play named ‘Mr. and Mrs. Karan Johar’ a few years back. Talking about her equation with Kiku, Delnaaz shares, “Kiku is my brother off screen. We bond very well, crack jokes, eat together and talk about what’s happening in each other’s life. In August last year, I tied him a Rakhi and he was very happy and shocked at the same time. I intend to tie him Rakhi this year also”.
That would surely make one wonder if playing Kiku’s wife on-screen makes Delnaaz feel awkward.
“Not at all; we are very comfortable with each other on-screen. Kiku is extremely professional. Having worked together in theatre, we understand each other’s professional strengths and limitations well. We do end up laughing a lot while doing scenes together. The romantic scenes are light and funny.”
Delnaaz also reveals the common traits she shares with Kiku that tie them together in the pure bond. “We both are foodies but I am a non-vegetarian and he is a vegetarian. We eat separately when I want to eat non-veg. We both love dancing and compete well. He is a very compassionate towards people and is very helpful in nature. We share the same wavelength. Because of the show you got to interact on a daily basis. Even after the show is over the bond between us will remain,” says Delnaaz.
