Another soppy one will bite the dust
Sony Entertainment’s latest addition, Ekk Nayi Pehchaan to its show line up doesn’t promise anything but another soppy, saas-bahu drama. It’s the story of a loving, helpful but illiterate woman, Sharda whose entire family takes her for granted. Her husband always gets irritated with her, her children don’t even bother to listen to her, her mother-in-law doesn’t think too much of her and her only support in the entire household is a maid, who sort of understands her. *yawn*
The concept of the show is just half good. It is supposed to be about a woman’s (Sharda) journey as she meets another (her daughter-in-law, Sakshi) who inspires her to study and become self-dependent. Unfortunately, it's half baked. For instance, when the show tries to make the viewers feel empathy towards Sharda, they just end up seeing her self-pity and constant acceptance of the behavior of those around her. That's just a little pathetic and quite frankly annoying.
Anyway Sony Entertainment is on thin ice, surviving only because of the fans of CID and Bade Achhe Lagte Hain, and even that’s not saying much. If the channel doesn’t put some more thought into making the characters and plot line stronger, then the initial viewership they’re receiving will dip and this soppy soap will bite the dust very soon!
