Satyamev Jayate Episode 4: Here’s the way to live like a King every day!
Episode 4 of the show was all about the biggest problem our nation is reeling under ever since forever, and that is, corruption. We know that corruption is a grave issue and it is fast eating up our resources and public money. But there are some barely known facts that the show aimed to highlight.
Subrat Das from Centre for Budget and Governance Accountability, did a research on the income of the nation from its resources. His conclusion was that half of the money that India earns is somewhere around Five Thousand Lakh and Crore Rupees per annum. If we divide this sum amongst each and every person of India (125 crores) then everyone should be richer by Rs 40 lakhs. But overall, every Indian citizen deserves to have at least Rs 1crore in his or her kitty if we take into account the total income of India. This clearly means that the ruling class of our country is swindling public money for personal gains.
Justice Santosh Hedge former Lokyukta, Karnataka, who had played a key role in studying the Billari Mining Scam that involved several private miners illegally digging out the iron ores. He said that the manner in which our country’s natural resources are being exploited is beyond anyone’s imagination. The only thing in the mind of illegal miners is making money.
Reagig the Billari scam, Justice Hegde said, 1 metric tonne at that point of time was fetching the government Rs 27 per metric tonne. The very same metric tonne was fetching the exporter Rs 6-7,000 depending upon the location where it was going.
When the miners joined this business, they owned nothing. But in no time they bought 2-3 choppers, passenger airplanes and runways are built by them. They are all now sitting on gold thrones because of their dirty act.
Justice Hegde further said that he had submitted his report which indicated that 3 CMs of Karnataka were guilty including the sitting CM at that time. There were nine other ministers who were guilty. Additionally, there were 797 officers including 14 IAS officers, Karnataka Administrative services officers and other bureaucrats too. So, all in all corruption has seeped in till the bottom of the administration.
He said that there were scam every year since the Indian independence and mot scams managed to stay away from the public eye.
On being asked about the effect such scams have on the normal lives of people, he said that the daily expenses of the general public have increased as compared to last year because the money that should be used for country’s development, is being siphoned off by the government. Only 15% of the national earnings are being used for the so-called development of the nation.
Justice hedge recounted his personal experience e about the scandalizing health care provision in India. In 2010, a pregnant woman went with a companion for her delivery but the hospital asked her for money instead. Her companion had to run for getting money and she was not even allowed by the hospital authorities to sit inside the hospital. Thus, she had to go and wait for her man at the bus stop and was forced to deliver her baby there!
Justice Hegde’s made heartfelt request to the youth of today by saying: “None of the people of my age could change the state of our nation, only you can change it. The good thing for you is that greed has crossed all its limits now. Only you have the chance to pull down the level of greed. Not for anybody else’s sake but your own sake and for your future generation’s sake you must change the face of the nation for good.”
Shankar Singh and Nikhil Dey (Mazdoor Kisan Shakti Sangathan) also joined the talk. They continue to fight tooth and nail for the downtrodden laborers and poor Social since the last two decades.
After listening to the grim condition of the nation, the show, also showed some perfect examples of communities who are prospering.
Villages in Kerala are an example of perfect governance and democracy in these morbid times. Here, all the Adat Gtam Panchayats are given a good sum to be spent on the welfare of the villages and they in turn invite all voters to voice their concern and suitable solutions. The result is an almost utopian society where everyone is happy.
