In a candid conversation with IPL host cum actor Samir Kochhar!
Samir Kochhar is one dapper hunk and a host cum actor. With the same ease, he hosts IPL matches, plays at CCL and also gives perfect shots in each of his movies. In an exclusive candid tete-a-tete with Pinkvilla, the charming hunk who recently celebrated his Grandfathers 100th birthday spoke to us about the fun-filled occasion and his upcoming movies, IPL and CCL.
Tell us about your upcoming projects?
Apart from Housefull 3, I have Janam. Similar to Sunny-Juhi-SRK’s Darr. Here I play the role of Sunny Deol from Darr. Though not an exact copy, but it is a story of obsession. It’s a story of a person who is suffering from Erotomania. It’s about a couple who stay up in the mountains and how this guy comes and creates havoc and mayhem in their lives and how things go out of control.
When is it slated to release?
We have shot the initial part of it in Manali. The second schedule of it will begin from 20th of February. It will also release around the same time when Housefull 3 releases. So I have an exciting next 6 months with IPL for two months and then two releases after that.
How is CCL going on?
Oh wow! Talking about my team, Mumbai Heroes is all geared up for the matches. We won the first match and lost the second. It’s like a gang of boys who come out every year and take this very seriously. Everybody has been busy with their shooting schedules, but this is one thing where we all talk only cricket! We pull each other’s leg, at times talk about of childhood days and have loads of fun.
We heard your grandpa completed a century of an amazing lifetime? Tell us something about him?
He turned 100 on 16th January, and he is all fit and fine. He worked with the WHO (World Health Organisation), so he always believes in staying fit and independent. My granddad has always lived his life by not taking any stress, by being around a family and people who mattered.
He has lived his life in Africa for almost 50 years. So he has always been very particular and disciplined about his food, his lifestyle. He has always made it a point not to indulge in binge eating and has kept walking to be an integral part of his life. He has lived in different countries throughout. It would be a great idea to make a movie on him soon!
How did you celebrate the day?
All my relatives and entire family came down from Mumbai, USA and other places to my house in Delhi to celebrate the day. My grandfather did not want to party in some hotel or something, but in his own house, in his own garden. So we all were about 150 people. When my son sat on his lap, we all realised that in one frame, we could see a gap of complete 100 years; for my son was not even a year old then. Everything was so massively planned. We had a band playing aside when the cake was cut. My grandfather also took the mike and thanked everyone for coming over and celebrating the day so well. He said that even though for all if he has turned 100 for all, but for him he has just grown a year older. Even at the age of 100, he very sportingly grooved to the tunes with the ladies of the family, enjoyed himself. It is a landmark one comes across quite rarely.
For me, it was a big thing that my son could be with his great grandpa. We gifted him a big memento, a collage comprising of all his photos right from his childhood days till date. It also comprised of his special memories. He wasn’t willing to celebrate his birthday since we lost our grandmother in the month of December. It was her wish that my grandpa should celebrate his 100th birthday in a grand way. Even Bobby Deol sent him a very sweet voice message wishing him, and my grandfather was like, 'Dharam ke puttar ne wish kitta hai!'
‘Seriously, 100 years of Swag!’
