I would love to play something which will give me sleepless nights- Mohit Malik
From playing Sindoora's(Kamya Punjabi) son in Banoo Mein Teri Dulhan to turning into an antagonist Samrat in Doli Armaano Ki to also exploring his dancing abilities in Jhalak Dikhla Jaa, Mohit Malik has done it all. A doting husband to the cute Aditie, Mohit will now be seen in Life OK's upcoming show produced by Franklin Pictures. The shoot that was supposed to go on floors last month, has now been postponed to June. While in a tete-a-tete with us, Mohit expounds on his variety of experiences in the television Industry and also why he will never leave TV for movies.
Jhalak seems to have matured you as a person, on both the personal and professional front, what's your take?
The question has it's answer in itself. It has made me very strong person. I am not a great dancer but yes I am a better dancer now. I have become more and more strong. A lot of people told me that I am talented and dance really well. Jhalak Dhiklaa Jaa made me strong physically as well as mentally because you go through a lot of pain, challenges and mental stress. It just makes you a very strong person. Professionally yes, It has been a stepping ladder for me and my career and I always wanted to do Jhalak, last year it was offered to, but couldn't do it because of my TV show Doli Armaano Ki. For me, Jhalak Dhiklaa Jaa is a classic reality show.
What's next? Reality shows or fiction?
Definitely fiction, because I love to act. I want to play good roles. For non-fiction, yes but not as of now because I am just out from Jhalak and I am too tired as of now, I was offered many shows but I said no so I am currently focused on fiction. My fans really want me back on TV.
Is Bollywood on cards soon?
Films are definitely on my wish list but it has to be something which gives me a creative satisfaction. I just don't want to do anything or any role in films. I want good role and a good character, it's definitely on my wish list but I think TV is equal to films now a days and TV has given me everything so far, I would love to do films but I will never leave TV for films.
Since we have already seen you in a negative role, so are you still open doing negative characters in the future too?
You never know, but if something really interesting comes up like a twist in a character I will go for it. In my last show Doli Armaano Ki, my character Samrat was not the negative character initially, but the story changed later on. I would love to do something as equal to Samrat or more challenging to it because Samrat was a very vibrant character. I would love to play Samrat or something with is tougher than that which gives me sleepless nights.
We recently read you are helping your wife with her newly opened cafe. How is that going?
It's going superb! It was my wife's dream to open up a cafe in Mumbai, she was looking for a place in Andheri for cafe and I was not able to help her much because I was busy in Jhalak rehearsals and she had done it all and I was not a part of it. It's completely her baby and she has done a great job and I am proud of her
What are your Valentines day plans?
There are no plans and I don't believe in such one day love celebration. I think Valentine should be every day and why it should be only one day. I just feel that you must celebrate your love every day respect your loved ones. For me, every day should be a valentine day
What do you look for in a script?
I make sure my character is important in a script how that character is involved, how it is related to script and how is he taking forward the story. I would always love to play a character which is involved in movie/tv show. I am happy that some people are offering me such kind of roles. Maybe, in future I will be doing such roles very soon.
We heard that you are doing a Life Ok show. Is that true?
Yes, I recently shot with them. The producers are very kind and they waited for me when I was doing Jhalak and they wanted to cast me. I finished with Jhalak and I shot for that but it's got delayed right now. I haven't signed anything as of now. I am meeting more people so let's see.
Where do we see you next?
Very very soon on your TV Screens, I am dying to come back and I am dying to act on screen.
