Kajol on-screen fiancé returns to Showbiz as Goddess Sita’s father in Siya Ke Ram!
Actor Bijay Anand, who was last seen in Ajay Devgn and Kajol starrer Pyar To Hona Hi Tha as Kajol's fiancé, is back to acting after a really long sabbatical. He can be seen playing King Janak in Nikhil Sinha's Siya Ke Ram on Star Plus.
He credits the role of Janak for returning back to acting after 17 years because he feels connected to the mythological character. "Yes, it's been a very long time," says Bijay about his comeback, adding, "I am coming back after 17 years. When I was not acting, I became a yoga teacher. I write blogs and articles for newspapers. The character of Janak is very thoughtful and I can relate to it. When I was offered the role of Janak, I said yes as the character was also required to teach. I am a teacher and preacher myself, so I thought why not take up a role which requires me to teach."
Speaking about the roles offered to him while he was away from the circuit, he says, "I was offered so many roles when I quit acting. Firstly, you take years to become an actor and then you quit the field. I was flooded with roles, but I decided not to do acting. Khidar is a metaphor of intuition. My friend Khidar told me not to act and I just stopped acting. Khidar told me to get back to acting and here I am doing Siya Ke Ram.
"When asked as to what made him take up yoga, he says, "I attended several yoga conferences. My body was stiff. I got arthritis and my cholesterol was also high. I decided that it's time to make the body flexible and learnt yoga and started conducting classes on it too. I also conduct yoga seminars abroad. And if the West knows Bijay Anand is conducting yoga, thousands of people turn up. They are more inclined towards philosophy. While in India only 30 people turn up as they are still struggling with monetary issues and family matters.”
Bijay made a transition from television to films with the movie Yash as the leading hero; he has to his credit the song Yaaron na jaane mujhe kya which became a chart-buster in the 90s. Speaking about the changes in the industry since the time he was in films, he says, "The film industry has become professional and technology has changed, but not its people.”
Ask him if he wishes to continue acting after Siya Ke Ram, and pat comes the answer, "Depends upon my friend Khidar!”
